Long-Range Planning

Having been part of high performing organizations in the past, we’re convinced that everyone needs to have a long-range goal and a plan for achieving it.

Setting a broad, defining goal helps you to focus activities and programming, develop a consistent message for publicity and fundraising, and showcase your successes. However, many organizations have trouble with this. It can be difficult (and sometimes uncomfortable) to establish a vision that includes measurable, specific objectives. Or you may have had an experience in the past with strategic planning that didn’t amount to anything.

That’s where we come in. We will spend a year or more with your organization, helping you figure out not only where you want to go, but also where you are now and how to get from Point A to Point B. That leads us to the development of annual plans. We’ll help you get started and remain available as you implement those plans, and measure and report on your progress to your Board, members, and funders.

Some consultants give everybody the same presentation; only the photos and the names are changed. We believe that the basic principles apply to everyone – you should know where your organization is headed and how you’re going to get there – and we look at the same areas for each client: People, Programming, Facilities, and Finances. To the extent that we can borrow lessons learned from similar organizations, we will; but beyond that, your organization is unique.

Staff & Volunteer Training

Whether your staff and volunteers need to increase knowledge, improve skills, or modify behavior, McDoux Preservation can deliver a reasonably priced, customized training program built around your organization’s specific needs.

We can create train-the-trainer materials that you deliver, CD- or DVD-based instruction that staff can access at their convenience, or full-service programs including instructors. At the end of the program, we don’t just leave you with a binder, destined to gather dust on a shelf. Every program includes follow-on activities and contact with participants to reinforce learning and help bring lessons learned into your workplace.
